Big Cats for Kids

The Tiger is one of the most powerful predators on earth.  It normally hunts by day or night, from the ground.  Its seemingly brightly coloured markings make perfect camoflage when it is hunting in bamboo forests and long grasses.

Tigers are excellent swimmers and will chase their prey into water to make them easier to catch.

Tigers are one of the most endangered big cats on earth.  They are being killed, not because they are a danger to man, but because man wants the Tigers body parts. In the Far East people use Tiger parts, and the bones for medicine.   Tiger based medicines have been proven not to work.   But still the killing goes on.  Young chidren of today will never have, (should they wish to when they are older),  the opportunity to see a Tiger in the wild if the killing goes on. 

Tigers, like most big cats are solitary animals only coming together to mate.  Tigers are to be found in India, Mongolia, and Siberia.   Many countries and Continents have lost forever their own Tiger species.  Sumatra and Bali in Indonesia to name a couple.
